seven authors & illustrators who write for kids and teens

Summer is coming, and The Texas Sweethearts & Scoundrels are looking forward to time in the sun (and maybe in the air conditioning, too), spending time with loved ones, and lots of great books!

A Texas-Sized Thank you!

The Texas Sweethearts & Scoundrels loved TLA 2012!

And we want to offer up a huge word of thanks to all those who came to our programs and stopped by our annual reception! We had a great time and handed out nearly 200 brownies and treats. And the best part? We're already looking forward to 2013.

Jo Whittemore, Jessica Lee Anderson, K. A. Holt, and Jeanette Larson

See you in Fort Worth!

P. J. Hoover
is thrilled to announce she's sold two books to Tor Children's. Tor is an imprint of Macmillan and is known across the world as a science fiction and fantasy powerhouse.

P.J. Hoover's SOLSTICE, about a near-future global heating crisis and a Texas teen who uncovers the strange untold ending of the Persephone myth, only to find that she is part of the story
-- and that her choices in love, in family, and in friendship will determine the destiny of her world, to Susan Chang at Tor Children's, for publication in Spring 2013.

P.J. Hoover's TUT, in which a young immortal King Tut, who has been stuck in middle school for over 3,000 years, must defeat an ancient enemy with the help of a dorky kid from school, a mysterious Egyptian princess, and a one-eyed cat, to Susan Chang at Tor Children's, for publication in Winter/Spring 2014.

P. J. Hoover
is just finishing up a publisher-sponsored school visit tour for the Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville, and Hutto areas to celebrate the paperback release of THE EMERALD TABLET. It's been a crazy whirlwind time filled with amazing kids, teachers, and librarians! Also, a special thank you to The Book Spot in Round Rock, Texas for helping with setting up the visits and for selling books. If you've never checked out The Book Spot, summer is the perfect time to support your local indie bookstore!

Jeanette Larson
had an enjoyable visit with a group of birders and writers at the Bryan (TX) Public Library. If your library or organization needs a speaker for an adult program, consider a program on hummingbirds!

Hummingbirds: Facts and Folklore from the Americas was named an Editor's Choice for 2012 by Library Media Connections.

Putting on her "big girl" hat, Jeanette will moderate a panel, "Snappy Patter and Dangerous Ladies," at The Book Spot in Round Rock (TX) on Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. The panel will feature mystery writers' Susan Rogers Cooper, Jan Grape, Joan Hess and Karen MacInerney.

Jeanette will be the featured author at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for their Hummingbirds Nature Night on Thursday, June 28. From 6-9 p.m. admission to the center is free and families can enjoy crafts, walks, and talks.

This is P. J. here, and I just want to send out a special thank you to Sweetheart Emma Virjan for the beautiful banners she provides us with each month for our newsletters and website. Emma's talent continues to amaze me!

What are we up to this summer? Well, some of the Texas Sweethearts & Scoundrels are heading off to a writing retreat in La Grange, Texas in June. We hope to come back with great stories to be shared with the world!
